Founders Room Mural
Carlow Local Enterprise Office
In May 2022, Carlow Local Enterprise Office commissioned Paul Byrne to create a wall mural for their Founders Room, designed to reflect both the history and ongoing purpose of the building. The work responds to the space as a site of enterprise and development, using visual storytelling to connect past and present. Through a considered composition, the mural captures key moments and themes associated with the building, positioning it as a place shaped by people, ideas and progression.
The mural is enhanced through augmented reality, allowing the surface to come to life through animation and audio. When activated, the piece reveals a layered narrative of the building’s story, voiced by Local Enterprise Office CEO Kieran Comerford. This integration of AR transforms the mural into an interactive experience, extending its function beyond a static artwork and into a dynamic storytelling platform. The project demonstrates how digital layers can enrich public and civic spaces, creating more engaging and accessible ways to connect audiences with local history and identity.
