Arthur’s Wall

Private Commission, Augmented Reality Mural

“Arthur’s Wall” is a site-specific augmented reality mural by Paul Byrne, created for a private client on a large exterior wall overlooking a social gathering space. The work is based on one of Byrne’s “Doll” designs, reinterpreted in response to the client’s environment and way of living. The mural presents a central figure which, when activated through AR, opens to reveal plant life drawn from the surrounding garden, creating a direct connection between the artwork and its immediate context.

The piece functions as both a visual anchor and an interactive experience within a shared social setting, inviting moments of discovery during everyday use of the space. By embedding personal references into the unfolding digital layer, the work reflects themes of growth, identity and connection to place. “Arthur’s Wall” demonstrates how augmented reality can extend mural practice beyond the static surface, creating layered, responsive artworks that evolve through interaction and are rooted in the lived experiences of those who encounter them.
