Coastal AR Mural

Private Commission

This site-specific augmented reality mural by Paul Byrne was created for a private residence located along the coast. The design takes the form of an abstracted visual map of the surrounding area, translating the landscape into a series of flowing shapes, textures and tones that reflect the movement and character of the shoreline. Rather than depicting the environment literally, the work captures a sense of place through interpretation, grounding the mural in its coastal context while maintaining a contemporary visual language.

When activated through augmented reality, the mural reveals an additional sensory layer through the sound of the sea, extending the experience beyond the visual. This integration of audio introduces a moment of immersion, connecting the artwork directly to the natural rhythms of its environment. The piece reflects an approach to mural-making that is both responsive and experiential, using technology to deepen the relationship between artwork, location and the everyday experience of those who inhabit the space.
