My Screen Time

Carlow Arts Office Arts Act Grant

“My Screentime” is an online participatory artwork by Paul Byrne, supported through an Arts Act Grant from Carlow Arts Office. The project took the form of a dedicated website offering a series of free downloadable wallpapers designed for digital devices. Each piece was created to gently interrupt habitual screen use, offering moments of reflection, encouragement and positive reinforcement before or after engagement with technology. In doing so, the project reframed the screen not only as a site of consumption, but as a space for mindful interaction.

Alongside his own work, Byrne invited artists to contribute to the platform, expanding the project into a shared creative resource. This open call encouraged diverse visual responses to the theme, fostering a sense of collective authorship and accessibility. By distributing the work freely and embedding it within everyday digital routines, “My Screentime” explored how small, intentional creative interventions can support wellbeing, while also demonstrating the potential of online platforms as inclusive spaces for artistic collaboration and public engagement.
